Walk this way...: Making it really easy for those who want to be involved, there's nothing onerous or underhand (and with this note it's now entirely transparent) with my selection process… it progresses through a series of points at which, depending on the action of myself or the other person, the interest of one-or-both of us naturally diminishes and ends. Using find-a-freelancer sites, rather than simply wanting 'hired hands looking for more work' I...

Listen: Browser. The embedded player at the foot of the browser window on any HonkRadio.com page should enable continuous play while browsing the site. And, if you open a new window or tab to browse elsewhere, it should continue playing for as long as the HonkRadio.com tab/window is open. We also have an alternate player. Apps. You can listen with popular mediaplayer apps which are likely already installed on your device. It's simple and...

Waste.: While I've no doubt about the longer-term success of this project, I'm not exactly carefree about early days. I don't know how long it'll take to 'get going'. I was asked recently 'What'll happen on day one?' Beyond explaining that with a soft-launch (as we've done, 'just turn-up and start doing things, with no fanfare or hoopla') there isn't really a 'day one' so let's instead think of 'month one', my honest view on progress is 'don't know'....

The Creative Personality.: Edited extract from 'Creativity: The Work and Lives of 91 Eminent People', Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. I've devoted 30 years of research to how Creatives live and work. Creative individuals adapt to almost any situation, and to make do with whatever is at hand, to reach their goals. If I had to express in one word what makes their personalities different from others, it's complexity. They show tendencies of thought and action that in most people...

Guest: If you're doing something appropriate (informative, inspirational, or otherwise worthy of attention), about which you can speak clearly and interestingly, we can include you (with a feature and/or interview) in one or more shows. How? You don't need to come to us, as we can record your input by phone/Skype/etcetera. And you may already have suitable content (podcast, audiobook, video, etcetera) from which the audio may be edited for re-use....

Thinking and wondering...: Something that's often been a consideration here is 'should we offer an airtime-only package'? A 'use your content or ours' thing. We do (with reservations*). Providing a basic service of 'book a time-slot, and air your stuff' appeals to those who're experienced, who likely have an existing podcast or other audio product, and are able to generate good content. But that's a relatively small percentage of potential show hosts, most of whom don't...

Say what?: One of the key outsourcing requirements here is of course voicework… for announcements, ads, and voicing of written articles. I initially approached it some time ago, then paused because I wasn't able to easily find suitable voices… and after listening to a few demos it quickly becomes difficult to objectively assess. My issue isn't that the work is poor. On the contrary, it's generally to a high standard. But it's not what I want....

Fyi: There's… Host your own show: a good way to promote yourself. Guest on a show: feature and/or interview. Advertise on-air: get the word out. Collaborate: work with us. Add content: send audio, articles, suggestions for broadcasting Updates: by rss and email. And… Buy / cart: airtime, for shows and ads. About: our story, etcetera. Contact: reach us by email, phone, etcetera. Site map: structure and pages. Legal: Terms of use, privacy,...

Variety.: We've previously outlined our multi-channel thing… Do we need so many channels? Probably not. Aren't we needlessly complicating things? Perhaps. Having them strengthens our service, helping to make it more worthwhile to more people. Our excuse is simple: they're very different. Honk #1, initially considered as just a temporary demo with which to launch… clearly has too much going for it to be prematurely jettisoned, and so has...

Add content: We're happy to consider whatever's appropriate, from a brief (maybe just 15-second) soundbite to podcast-type/length. Options include: Audio: You may already have (or be able to produce) appropriate content (podcast, audiobook, video, etcetera) from which the audio can be grabbed and edited/adapted (potentially including reformatting, with additional voicing, into an interview). Text: Maybe you've written something (blog-post, article, book,...
